Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 27-26 to Fairfax. Dr. Maya Angelou Community's loss signaled the end of their 12-game winning streak.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Nicholas Quintanilla , who picked up 89 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Branden Morales, who rushed for 174 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry.
Ivan Levant looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 286 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.3 yards per attempt. Levant is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Fairfax also got help from Sebastian Ikolo who showed off his sure hands for 104 receiving yards.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community's defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Fairfax, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Dr. Maya Angelou Community does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Fairfax is on the road again on Saturday and play against Chatsworth at 2:00 p.m. on November 25th. Chatsworth knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Fairfax likes a good challenge.
