Conrad Weiser hasn't had much luck against Twin Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Scouts are taking a road trip to square off against the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Conrad Weiser made easy work of Daniel Boone and carried off a 19-9 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scouts.
Madison Derfler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Trevena, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Kaylise Mortland also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Conrad Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Daniel Boone only managed eight hits.
Meanwhile, Twin Valley waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. They blew past the Shamrocks 8-2.
Like Conrad Weiser, Twin Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Erin Cromwell. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits. Cromwell has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ella Herbst was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maggie Krall, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Twin Valley's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Conrad Weiser, their record now sits at 9-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Conrad Weiser hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Twin Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Conrad Weiser might still be hurting after the 15-8 defeat they got from Twin Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Scouts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
