Aberdeen Central and Pierre T.F. Riggs are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2020, but not for long. Riggs took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Aberdeen Central, who comes in off a win.
Aberdeen Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Mitchell, who was ranked 11th at the time (Aberdeen Central was ranked 16th). The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Kernels with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Kernels: they've now won nine in a row.
While Aberdeen Central won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 25-15, 25-21.
Aberdeen Central can attribute much of their success to Taylin Kleffman, who had six digs and three aces, and Kalli Huff, who had ten digs. That's the most aces Kleffman has posted since back in September. Lauryn Burckhard also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
They weren't the only good servers: Aberdeen Central was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell only served seven.
Meanwhile, Pierre T.F. Riggs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against O'Gorman, falling 3-0.
The final score came out to 25-12, 25-10, 25-9.
Aberdeen Central's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Pierre T.F. Riggs, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
Aberdeen Central took their victory against Pierre T.F. Riggs when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
