Baseball Recap: King Takes a Loss

King lost a heartbreaker to Carroll when they met back in April of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The King Mustangs fell just short of the Carroll Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Mustangs have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meetings.

Marco Barrera put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 7.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his six plate appearances.

In other batting news, Grant Hoogland was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-6. He is becoming a predictor of King's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 1-8-1 when he doesn't).

King's loss dropped their record down to 4-9-1. As for Carroll, the win snapped their losing streak at 12 games and leaves them with a 2-12 record.

King didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-1 defeat against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on the 14th. As for Carroll, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 4-2 loss against Corpus Christi Moody on the 14th.
