Volleyball Recap: Terre Haute South Vigo Has No Trouble Against Southport

Terre Haute South Vigo lost to Southport back in August of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Braves put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 3-0 win. The match marked the Braves' most dominant victory of the season so far.

The win didn't come easy: Southport scored at least 18 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-22, 27-25.

Anaston Fell paced Terre Haute South Vigo's offense, picking up 18 kills. Fell got some help from Kassidy Merk and her 11 assists. Merk was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Despite the loss, Southport saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lily Boone had 21 digs and two aces. Those 21 digs set a new season-high mark for Boone. Natalie Vaeth also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

The victory was the third in a row for Terre Haute South Vigo, bringing their record up to 4-1. As for Southport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Terre Haute South Vigo will head out to challenge Sullivan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southport, they will venture away from home to face off against Mt. Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
