Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Texas Tigers walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jaguars on Friday and snuck past 17-14. Given Texas' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Mansfield Summit is ranked 117th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The critical scores for Texas came from Tradarian Ball and Shavante Montgomery.
Mansfield Summit's loss came despite strong showings from Amare Burgess and Braylon Moore. Burgess rushed for 165 yards and a touchdown, while Moore rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
The win makes it two in a row for Texas and bumps their season record up to 11-1. As for Mansfield Summit, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Texas will be playing at home against Lovejoy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lovejoy is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games. Mansfield Summit does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
