Weslaco is 0-9 against Rivera since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Weslaco Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rivera Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Weslaco's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Weslaco's offense. They were the victim of a rough 11-0 defeat at the hands of Los Fresnos on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Weslaco in their matchups with Los Fresnos: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Rivera put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their undefeated season alive. Their defense stepped up to hand San Benito a 7-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for Rivera, who have now won six contests by three goals or more so far this season.
Weslaco's loss dropped their record down to 0-2-1. As for Rivera, they pushed their record up to 11-0-1 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Weslaco might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Rivera when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Weslaco avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
