Mallory Reed was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Avery Vick was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anari Baker-Ellerby, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Eastern Wayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
SouthWest Edgecombe hit Washington with a ten-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pam Pack lost 12-2 to the Cougars. The Pam Pack haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Washington saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carly Woolard, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
The victory got Eastern Wayne back to even at 7-7. As for Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Washington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Eastern Wayne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 17.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Washington, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Eastern Wayne keep running through batters, or will the Pam Pack buck the trend?
Eastern Wayne couldn't quite get it done against Washington in their previous matchup on April 1st as they fell 4-1. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
