The Hoover Tornados are taking a road trip to challenge the Firebaugh Falcons at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hoover is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
While Hoover didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy 19-9 on Saturday. The Tornados might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Evelyn Ortiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Haylee Malagon and Hannah Parker did most of the damage at the plate: Malagon scored five runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Parker scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Parker has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. Mari Aghazaryan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Firebaugh didn't have quite enough to beat Chadwick on Thursday and fell 6-5.
Joanna Vasquez and Giselle Maravilla stepped up to the plate in a big way. Vasquez scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2, while Maravilla scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Samantha Ayala also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Hoover pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Firebaugh, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Firebaugh's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Hoover has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Firebaugh, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Hoover keep running through batters, or will Firebaugh buck the trend?
Hoover suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Firebaugh in their previous meeting back in February. Can Hoover avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
