Blountstown is a perfect 4-0 against Vernon since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Blountstown will venture away from home to take on Vernon at 6:00 p.m. Blountstown has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Blountstown took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Port St. Joe, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Blountstown came out on top in a nail-biter against Port St. Joe on Tuesday, sneaking past 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 8, 2024.
Carson Stafford made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryson Fleck, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Blountstown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyler Jones, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
Blountstown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Port St. Joe only posted an OBP of .375.
Vernon never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Graceville on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-5 margin over the Tigers. The victory continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.
Like Blountstown, Vernon also got a great game from a two-way player: Wyatt Glenn. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Glenn was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Caiden Coltrane was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Landon Cooper also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Vernon pushed their record up to 6-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 10.33 hits in those games compared to only 4.73 in the others. As for Blountstown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-14.
Blountstown took their win against Vernon in their previous matchup back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 18-0. Does Blountstown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vernon turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
