It was a good run, but the Civic Leadership/AAE Eagles unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak dating back to last season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Academy of Science and Innovation on the road and fell 59-21. Civic Leadership/AAE was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Academy of Science and Innovation to victory, but perhaps none more so than Symber Ortiz-Sutton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maiara Rodriguez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 steals.
Academy of Science and Innovation's lineup was just a bit different on Thursday as Phoebe Candy got a bit more time on the court (26 vs. her season average of 13.38). Candy made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Civic Leadership/AAE's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Academy of Science and Innovation, they pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Civic Leadership/AAE does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Academy of Science and Innovation, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Academy of Science and Innovation focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
