Softball Game Preview: Central Dauphin Rams vs. Lower Dauphin Falcons

Central Dauphin has gone a perfect 4-0 against Lower Dauphin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Rams will head out to face off against the Falcons at 4:15 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Central Dauphin sitting on seven straight wins and Lower Dauphin on five.

Central Dauphin came out on top against Altoona on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Rams put the hurt on the Mountain Lions with a sharp 14-3 victory. Considering the Rams have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, while Lower Dauphin put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Gettysburg. The Falcons walked away with a 5-0 win over the Warriors.

Sydney Matincheck made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Frye, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Isabella Roeting also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Lower Dauphin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 11 consecutive games.

Central Dauphin pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Lower Dauphin, their record is now 14-5.

Central Dauphin was able to grind out a solid victory over Lower Dauphin in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
