The Hampton Roads Academy Navigators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Hampton Roads Academy has not done well against Walsingham Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hampton Roads Academy had just enough and edged Walsingham Academy out 49-46. Given Hampton Roads Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Walsingham Academy is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They claimed a resounding 70-41 win over KIPP DC Legacy College Prep on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Peninsula Catholic has posted since November 30, 2023.
EJ Joyner was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Devin Gaines, who scored 15 points.
Hampton Roads Academy's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Peninsula Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season.
Hampton Roads Academy took a serious blow against Peninsula Catholic in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 80-42. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hampton Roads Academy was down 39-18.
