Softball Recap: Lafayette Jefferson Wins Going Away Against Anderson

Lafayette Jefferson was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Anderson on Saturday. The Bronchos put the hurt on the Indians with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering the Bronchos have won seven games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Sayler Teal made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Lafayette Jefferson got a massive performance out of Rilee Clifton, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Clifton has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Maya Thomas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Lafayette Jefferson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lafayette Jefferson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Anderson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9.

Coming up, Lafayette Jefferson will square off against Marion at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Giants have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.19 runs per game on average), something the Bronchos will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Anderson, they will take on Kokomo at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
