Basketball Recap: Stanton's Winning Streak Snapped at 12 Games

After a string of 12 wins, Stanton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 59-48 loss to the Coahoma Bulldogs. The Buffaloes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Coahoma's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Baylor Wright, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points Wright has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madi Renteria, who went 7 of 17 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds.

Stanton's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. As for Coahoma, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Stanton and Coahoma should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Stanton (ranked 325th) will meet Crane (ranked 1013th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Coahoma (ranked 227th) will meet Brownfield (ranked 1002nd) at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
