Fernley and Elko are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Vaqueros will challenge the Indians at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Fernley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Everything went their way against Wooster as they made off with a 7-0 victory. Surprisingly, this marked the Vaqueros' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Not much got past Dylon Comer, who gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Wooster off the board. Comer also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fernley is 6-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-12-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Riley McCullar was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Fernley's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 6-1 (and 5-14-1 when he doesn't). Alex Welsh was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Elko came out on top against Fernley last Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Indians were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Vaqueros. That looming 8-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Indians yet this season.
Toren Duke made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coy Jones, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Javi Robles, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Fernley is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-15-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Elko, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-15.
Fernley suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Elko in their previous matchup last Saturday. Can the Vaqueros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
