The Cienega Bobcats will be playing at home against the Rincon/University Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Cienega's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matches.
Cienega pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 67-56 to Tucson High Magnet School. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cienega in their matchups with Tucson High Magnet School: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite their loss, Cienega saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isaac Sdobnev, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Marcos Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Rincon/University suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Cholla by a score of 69-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Cienega's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Rincon/University, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.
Cienega beat Rincon/University 77-65 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Does Cienega have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rincon/University turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
