Basketball Recap: First Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lake Mary Prep last Tuesday, First Academy came back down to earth. The First Academy Eagles came up short against the Legacy Charter Eagles on Friday, falling 48-22. First Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Legacy Charter apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the defeat, First Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sarah Rodriguez posted no points and six steals. Those six steals gave Rodriguez a new career-high.

Legacy Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ashlyn Kraus, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kraus has scored at least a third of Legacy Charter's points. Another player making a difference was Joi Medley, who made all 6 shots she took racking up 12 points.

First Academy's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Legacy Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

First Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Legacy Charter, they will face off against Altamonte Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Legacy Charter's defense has only allowed 25.5 points per game this season, so Altamonte Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them.
