The Murphy Panthers won the last time they faced the Saraland Spartans, and things went their way on Friday too. Murphy walked away with a 67-54 win over Saraland. Given Murphy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Saraland is ranked 335th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Murphy found their leader in underclassman Kinley Simmons, who shot 6-for-9 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Simmons has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Jackson, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Murphy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Saraland, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-18.
Murphy will head out on the road to face off against Theodore at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saraland, they will be playing at home against Blount at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Blount is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
