The St. Francis Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Sterling Golden Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Francis knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Sterling likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, St. Francis was fully in charge, breezing past Rochelle 45-14 at home. Given St. Francis' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Rochelle is ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alessio Milivojevic was his usual excellent self, throwing for 308 yards and five touchdowns while completing 80.8% of his passes. Deshaun Williams did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 115 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Sterling got themselves on the board against Payton College Prep on Saturday, but Payton College Prep never followed suit. They blew past the Grizzlies, posting a 50-0 win on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Sterling just coasted through the last quarter.
St. Francis' win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 8-2 IC Catholic Prep and 7-3 Joliet Catholic (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.5% over those games). As for Sterling, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.
St. Francis strolled past Sterling in their previous meeting back in September by a score of 42-28. Does St. Francis have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sterling turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
