South Effingham suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Grovetown, falling 82-31. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while Grovetown is ranked 106th).
Despite the defeat, South Effingham had strong showings from Will Harlin, who scored 12 points along with two steals, and Michael Hall, who scored four points.
South Effingham struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Evans posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Lakeside out 65-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
South Effingham's loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points per game. As for Evans, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
South Effingham suffered a grim 73-50 defeat to Evans in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can South Effingham avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
