The Red Mountain Mountain Lions will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Brophy College Prep Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Red Mountain is ranked 13th, while Brophy College Prep is ranked ninth).
With a playoff game on the line, Red Mountain rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers and snuck past 27-24. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Red Mountain was the better team in the second half.
Red Mountain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but IsaiaH Savoie led the charge by rushing for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Savoie has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last four times he's played. Bode Wagner also helped out with an impressive 105 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Red Mountain's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. Jameson Wade was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, Brophy College Prep came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.4 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Casteel with points to spare, taking the game 31-17.
Brophy College Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Charlie McGinnis out in front who rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 118 yards and a touchdown.
The victory got Red Mountain back to even at 6-6. As for Brophy College Prep, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 10-2 record.
Red Mountain beat Brophy College Prep 45-38 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Brophy College Prep's David Lopez, who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns.
