The Heritage Patriots will take on the Bluffton Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
While Heritage's victory against Garrett wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Patriots skirted past the Railroaders 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Railroaders: they've now won three in a row.
Danica Fuller made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lucy Buuck, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Abriyah James was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Bluffton never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on Northfield with a sharp 11-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Tigers have posted against the Norsemen since April 12, 2016.
Like Heritage, Bluffton also got a great game from a two-way player: Madyson Sonnigsen. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Sonnigsen was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Isabella Stout was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Jillian Phillippe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Bluffton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 6-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Bluffton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-12. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 13-6.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Heritage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Bluffton struggles in that department as they've averaged .339. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Heritage's way against Bluffton when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Heritage made off with a 10-0 win. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
