Halifax Academy has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Halifax Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Rocky Mount Academy likes a good challenge.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Halifax Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 67-28 win over Cary Christian. Halifax Academy might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six games by 24 points or more this season.
Meanwhile, Rocky Mount Academy had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 50.4 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Friday. They came out on top against John Paul II Catholic by a score of 22-15.
Marti Mcknight was his usual excellent self, rushing for 100 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 39 receiving yards. Jordan Wright and his 90 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Rocky Mount Academy's win.
Halifax Academy pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Rocky Mount Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Halifax Academy beat Rocky Mount Academy 21-14 in their previous meeting back in August. The rematch might be a little tougher for Halifax Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
