The high school football season came to an end in Kentucky over the weekend when St. Xavier (Louisville) defeated Male (Louisville) 31-21 to capture the Class 6A championship and finish on top of the final Kentucky MaxPreps Top 25.
The state title is the 13th for the Tigers, breaking a tie with Mayfield and moving St. Xavier into fourth place all-time in state history for most football state titles. The Tigers finished 14-1 and avenged an early season loss to Male with the championship victory.
Male finished at No. 2 with a 13-1 record. The Bulldogs climbed to 927 wins in the program's history, closing to within nine wins of the all-time national mark of 936 held by Valdosta (Ga.).
South Warren (Bowling Green), the Division 5 state champion, finished at No. 3 with a 14-1 record while Division 4 champion Boyle County (Danville) comes in at No. 4.
