The Riverside-Durham Pirates came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Rolesville by a score of 62-51. Given Riverside-Durham's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Rolesville is ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside-Durham was led to victory by Robert Mc'Donald and Daniel Kelleh. Mc'Donald dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Kelleh scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Mc'Donald scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Jaden Butler, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Rolesville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Life Lynch, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Roberts, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Rolesville were working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Riverside-Durham pushed their record up to 7-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Rolesville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Riverside-Durham will head out on the road to face off against Durham Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Durham Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Riverside-Durham likes a good challenge. Rolesville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Jordan at 6:30 p.m. on December 14th. Jordan is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 64 points per game.
