The Uvalde Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) will head out to challenge the Natalia Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Uvalde will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Floresville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) won by a run and slipped past the Tigers/Jaguars 11-10. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Uvalde got a big performance out of BELLA BUENO, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave BUENO a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was NADIYAH RAMOS, who scored three runs and stole three bases.
BUENO wasn't the only one making solid contact: Uvalde kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Natalia gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Dilley 13-2. Considering the Mustangs have won 11 contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Anaya Jones, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Kira Jimenez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Natalia and bumps their season record up to 20-7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Uvalde, the win got them back to even at 13-13-1.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Uvalde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Natalia struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Uvalde couldn't quite get it done against Natalia in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Coyotes/Lobos (for girls) avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
