Abernathy is 5-0 against Coahoma since October of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Abernathy Antelopes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Coahoma Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Abernathy put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Stanton on the road to the tune of 41-0. The win made it back-to-back wins for Abernathy.
Meanwhile, Coahoma didn't have too much trouble with Roosevelt at home on Friday as they won 41-22. Coahoma pushed the score to 34-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Roosevelt cut but never quite recovered from.
Coahoma's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaidyn Vineyard led the charge by rushing for 204 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry. Vineyard really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Another player making a difference was Austin Perkins, who threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
Abernathy's victory pushed their record up to 4-5, while Coahoma's bumped their own up to the opposite: 5-4.
Everything came up roses for Abernathy against Coahoma in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 49-19 win. Does Abernathy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Coahoma turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
