Softball Recap: Giles Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Auburn, Giles was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They blew past the Galax Maroon Tide 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Spartans, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Addie Lowry made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Giles let Addisyn Vanderpool and Addison Hylton run wild. Vanderpool went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Hylton went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Summer Ceritano, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Giles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Galax only posted an OBP of .176.

Giles has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Galax, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Giles will challenge rival Fort Chiswell at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Galax is set to take on their familiar foe Grayson County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
