Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) won its fifth state title in six years Friday night by beating Canyon Springs (North Las Vegas) 71-58 in the Nevada Division I championship game.
Junior
Chase Jeter, a 6-foot-9 forward, recorded 21 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Gaels to their third state crown in a row.
Stephen Zimmerman, a 6-10 junior, also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards.
Gorman (30-3) has captured seven state crowns under current head coach Grant Rice and 16 all-time.The Gaels – winners of 57 games in a row against NIAA opponents – rolled into the title game by crushing Reno 68-27 in Thursday's semifinal.
There was another win of sorts earlier in the day for Gorman as Chicago Public School tournament champ Curie was forced to forfeit all 24 victories this season – which included a 66-62 decision over the Gaels in December.
