The Fredericksburg Christian Eagles pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 72-55 to St. Margaret. While losing is never fun, Fredericksburg Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while St. Margaret's is ranked 113th).
Despite the loss, Fredericksburg Christian still got an impressive performance from Layna Thomas, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Minnick, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
St. Margaret's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ilona Syzdek, who scored 17 points. Syzdek continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jade Wright, who scored 17 points.
Fredericksburg Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for St. Margaret's, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fredericksburg Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Trinity Christian at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. Trinity Christian's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Fredericksburg Christian's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Margaret's, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against St. Catherine's at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th.
