Stanton County has been on the road for four straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They and the Southwestern Heights Mustangs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Stanton County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Last Tuesday, Stanton County didn't have too much trouble with the Wildcats on the road as they won 68-53. Given Stanton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Wildcats are ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stanton County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gerardo Robles out in front who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Robles has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Juan Aleman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Southwestern Heights' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 82-59 defeat at the hands of Lakin. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Stanton County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Southwestern Heights, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.
Stanton County was able to grind out a solid win over the Mustangs in their previous meeting on Monday, winning 53-45. Does Stanton County have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
