Basketball Recap: Pike Drops Highest Score of Season Against 21st Century Charter

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike). Everything went their way against the 21st Century Charter Cougars on Friday as they made off with a 96-76 win. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked sixth, while the Cougars are ranked 50th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pike's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isaiah Hill, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Hill has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jahari Miller, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 19 points.

Pike was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why 21st Century Charter lost, don't look at Terrence Hayes Jr.. Despite the final result, he shot 55% from the field on his way to 28 points along with eight boards and six assists. Hayes Jr. continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacolby Donaldson, who went 7-for-14 en route to 20 points.

Pike pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.7 points over those games. As for 21st Century Charter, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Pike wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-38 win against Center Grove on the 16th. As for 21st Century Charter, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-48 victory against Valparaiso on the 16th.
