Basketball Recap: Pike Sets Scoring Season-High Against 21st Century Charter

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike). They put the hurt on the 21st Century Charter Cougars with a sharp 96-76 victory on Friday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Red Devils just coasted through the last quarter.

Despite the loss, 21st Century Charter still got an impressive performance from Terrence Hayes Jr., who shot 55% from the field on his way to 28 points along with eight boards and six assists. The contest was Hayes Jr.'s fourth in a row with at least 20 points. Another player making a difference was Jacolby Donaldson, who went 7-for-14 en route to 20 points.

The win (which was Pike's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. As for 21st Century Charter, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Pike and Gary West Side will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for 21st Century Charter, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tindley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Cougars will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 71.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
