The Silverado Skyhawks will square off against the Bonanza Bengals at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Silverado is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Silverado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Sierra Vista, who was ranked 14th at the time (Silverado was ranked 18th). The Skyhawks came out on top against the Mountain Lions by a score of 9-5 on Thursday. The game was the first time the Skyhawks have beaten the Mountain Lions on their field since May 12, 2022.
Giovanni Guariglia was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Jayden Orphan and Marek Piekarski did most of the damage at the plate: Orphan went 2-for-5 with four RBI and one double, while Piekarski went 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Those four hits gave Piekarski a new career-high. Kanoa Wolfgang was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonanza). They never let Desert Pines get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory on Thursday. Give the Bengals' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Like Silverado, Bonanza also got a great game from a two-way player: Dallas Sirikhan. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sirikhan was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Bonanza got a big performance out of Dillon Owens, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. The Bengals are undefeated when Owens posts three or more RBI, but 8-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jesus Rios, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Bonanza kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Bonanza pushed their record up to 11-15 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Silverado, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Silverado came out on top in a nail-biter against Bonanza when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Skyhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bengals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
