The North Pontotoc Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 60-51 to New Albany. While losing is never fun, North Pontotoc can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while New Albany is ranked 80th).
New Albany's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braden Shettles, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Shettles has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylan King, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
North Pontotoc has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season. As for New Albany, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Pontotoc will take on Bruce at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for New Albany, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South Pontotoc at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. South Pontotoc is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
