Proviso East couldn't beat Jones on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Pirates came up short against the Eagles, falling 22-5. The Pirates just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Marisela Galvan was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlean Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove South scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 19-13 to Oak Park-River Forest. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Huskies: they've now lost three in a row.
Aubree Potter and Addison Yurchak did some serious damage despite the final result: Potter went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Yurchak went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those runs marked the first that Potter has scored this season. Natalia Manganello was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Proviso East's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Downers Grove South, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Proviso East's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Pirates have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Downers Grove South, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Proviso East continue to outrun the ball?
Proviso East suffered a grim 16-2 defeat to Downers Grove South when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
