Week 3 of the
Wisconsin high school football season is here and we are putting the
spotlight on the biggest games.
Week 3 games to watch
Fond du Lac is coming off a 17-3 win over Marquette University, while Appleton North dropped a 27-17 contest to Kenosha Bradford. Running back
Mason Henschel was a workhorse for Fond du Lac in Week 2, carrying the ball 48 times for 302 yards and two touchdowns. Wisconsin recruit
Ben Wenzel finished with a team-high 6.5 tackles (five solo) last week for Appleton North. Last season, Appleton North earned a 21-7 victory to open FVA play.
Onalaska (2-0) at Holmen (2-0) Friday, 7 p.m. - Watch live on NFHS NetworkThe Mississippi Valley teams were part of a five-way tie for first place in the league last season; Holmen won 34-20 when the teams met. Both teams cruised to victories in Week 2: Onalaska defeated Medford 36-0 and Holmen beat Sauk Prairie 42-0. Quarterback
Ian Kowal went 6 for 8 for 106 yards and three touchdowns for Onalaska. In Holmen's win, running backs
Eli Kane (193 yards, 3 touchdowns) and
Colin Williams (108 yards, 2 touchdowns) headlined the offense.
Westfield (2-0) at Johnson Creek (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. - Watch live on NFHS Network When the Trailways Conference teams met last season, Johnson Creek topped Westfield 14-0. Both squads won their first two games by at least 25 points. For Westfield, running back
Mason Groskreutz finished with 151 yards on 15 carries and found the end zone twice in a 56-24 win over Nekoosa last week. Quarterback
Billy Gaylord threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns with
Ethan Stolpa catching three passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. In Johnson Creek's 57-12 win over Deerfield, the Bluejays were led by running backs
Owen Blakey (114 yards, 3 touchdowns) and
Luke Hartz (88 yards, 1 touchdown).
Monona Grove (Monona) (2-0) at No. 6 Waunakee (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. The
Badger Large showdown features teams that have dominated their first
two games of the season. Last season, Waunakee earned a 42-21 victory
against Monona Grove. Waunakee is coming off a 35-0 win over Madison
Memorial, where they did a lot of damage in the run game with
Colin Murphy helping lead the way. Last week, Monona Grove scored 28 points in
the second quarter en route to the 42-0 win over Madison La Follette.
The Silver Eagles had seven different players with at least one rushing
attempt, led by
Tremayne Habeck, who finished with eight carries for 121
yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback
Jaxon Zukowski was an efficient
6 for 8 for 107 yards and two scores.
No. 3 Muskego (1-1) at Pewaukee (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. Muskego got back on track last week with a 41-17 win over Oak Creek.
Jackson Niemiec led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 138 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors. Defensively,
Max Sauer and
Nathan Makinen led the way with seven tackles each. Sauer also had a pair of tackles for loss, including one sack. In Pewaukee's 17-0 win over Greendale, running back
Omar Cherrington finished with 21 carries for 101 yards, and
Benji Weis had three carries for 71 yards and a score. Last season, Muskego defeated Pewaukee 21-7 in their Classic Eight meeting.
Chippewa Falls (1-1) at No. 20 New Richmond (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. Each of the teams won their first Big Rivers opener last week. New Richmond, last year's conference champion, routed Eau Claire North with running back
Austyn Wittek racking up 223 yards with three touchdowns on 16 carries. Chippewa Falls defeated Eau Claire Memorial 33-6 and piled up 375 yards rushing with
Tyler Behnke (90 yards, 1 touchdown) and
Gavin Shilts (85 yards, 2 touchdowns) leading the way. Last season, New Richmond beat Chippewa Falls 32-7.
Grafton (2-0) at Whitnall (Greenfield) (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Black Hawks cruised to a 49-7 victory when the teams met last season. In Grafton's 28-3 Week 2 win over Port Washington,
Jack Nelson rushed for 157 yards on 32 carries and found the end zone twice. For Whitnall, quarterback
Tanner Effertz went 21 for 31 for 268 yards and four touchdowns and ran the ball 28 times for 97 yards and another score in a 31-28 win over New Berlin Eisenhower. Wide receiver
Cooper Markee caught eight passes for 132 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons.
Friday, 7 p.m. Reigning Capitol Conference champion Columbus is coming off a 34-13 non-league loss to Aquinas. Running back
Owen Cowell led the Cardinals with 107 yards on 19 carries and tallied eight tackles on the defensive side of the ball. In Lodi's 27-10 Week 2 victory against Edgerton, running backs
Sawyer Baron (125 yards, 2 touchdowns) and
Brody Ripp (110 yards, 1 touchdown) paced the offense for the Blue Devils.
Alex Breunig led Lodi's defense with 7.5 tackles, including one tackle for loss.
St. Croix Central (Hammond) (2-0) at Baldwin-Woodville (Baldwin) (2-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. Baldwin-Woodville, last year's WIAA Division 4 state runner-up, has a couple of blowout wins already this season, including last week's 44-8 victory over Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau. Quarterback
Joe Jensen passed for 68 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball 10 times for 36 yards and four touchdowns. In St. Croix Central's 21-14 win over Elk Mound, running back
Max Kahler finished with 24 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown. Last season, Baldwin-Woodville posted a 35-21 victory against St. Croix Central in their Middle Border matchup.
Weyauwega-Fremont (Weyauwega) (2-0) at Wittenberg-Birnamwood (Wittenberg) (1-1)
Friday, 7 p.m. Weyauwega-Fremont is coming off a 36-14 win over Iola-Scandinvia, with the trio of running backs
Dawson Lind (88 yards, 1 touchdown),
Broc Billington (70 yards, 1 touchdown), and
Tyson Quick (68 yards, 1 touchdown) leading the way on offense. In Week 2, Wittenberg-Birnamwood dropped a 28-22 contest in overtime to Tomahawk. Quarterback
Bo Davis completed eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns, with
Kaden Yaeger catching four of those for 94 yards and a touchdown.
