The Poplarville Hornets will square off against the Picayune Maroon Tide at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Picayune will be up against a hot Poplarville squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. Poplarville beat Perry Central on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-4. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

Poplarville let Jeremiah Moss and Brayden Lee run wild. Moss went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Lee scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Lee has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brock Sheppard, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Poplarville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Picayune, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past St. Patrick 10-9.
Landon Franklin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Cooper Moreaux was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Turner Pugh was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.
Picayune pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Poplarville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Poplarville suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Picayune in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Poplarville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
