The Webb Schools took a serious blow against Western Christian on Tuesday, falling 78-51. While losing is never fun, The Webb Schools can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1176th, while Western Christian is ranked 339th).
Several Gauls players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Andrew Paik, who scored 16 points. Tyler Samson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
The Webb Schools struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Western Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Scales led the charge by scoring 20 points. That's the first time this season that Scales scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of JJ Hooper, who scored 15 points.
The Webb Schools has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Western Christian, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.
The Webb Schools will be playing at home against Tarbut V' Torah at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Western Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Newport Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Newport Christian is on a three-game streak of home wins, Western Christian a five-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
