After flying high against the Ithaca Little Red on Friday, the Owego Free Academy River Hawks came back down to earth. Owego Free Academy fell just short of Elmira by a score of 46-44. Owego Free Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Elmira apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2018.
Leading Elmira to victory were Ellie Clearwater and Mariah Matias. Clearwater scored 20 points along with 5 steals, while Matias dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caitlyn Wagner, who scored 5 points along with 7 rebounds.
Owego Free Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Elmira, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owego Free Academy will take on Chenango Forks at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday. As for Elmira, they will be playing at home against Johnson City at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
