Basketball Recap: Lilyana Greenfield and Eva Young Secure Win for Ridgeland

Ridgeland won the last time they faced Warren Central and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Ridgeland Titans took down the Warren Central Vikings 49-35. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Vikings are ranked 216th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ridgeland was led to victory by Eva Young and Lilyana Greenfield. Young posted 15 points in addition to six steals and five boards, while Greenfield went 7 of 15 on her way to 15 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Greenfield a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Austin, who had four points along with seven assists and seven steals.

Ridgeland was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Warren Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Camara Evans dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Those 14 boards set a new season-high mark for Evans. The team also got some help courtesy of Arrionna Jenkins, who put up eight points and five rebounds.

Ridgeland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Warren Central, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Ridgeland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-41 win against Vicksburg on the 9th. As for Warren Central, they will venture away from home to square off against Columbus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
