The Highline Pirates will take on the Cedarcrest Red Wolves at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Highline is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Highline came up short against Evergreen and fell 7-2.
Zennin Luiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Cedarcrest came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Red Hawks 17-5. The Red Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by seven runs or more this season.
Quinn Larson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Larson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Braden Bottemiller was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Logan Pfister, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Cedarcrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.
Cedarcrest pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Highline, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Highline has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Cedarcrest struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Highline couldn't quite finish off Cedarcrest in their previous matchup back in March and fell 4-2. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
