Two dominant guards in Zoe Mercado and Lily Cooper are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The East Hartford Hornets just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Southington Blue Knights at 6:45 p.m. on January 16th. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, East Hartford beat Bloomfield 56-44. That's two games straight that East Hartford has won by exactly 12 points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Southington gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Hall 55-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Southington has posted yet this season.
Southington relied on the efforts of Cooper, who scored 13 points along with six assists and six rebounds, and Bethany Borges, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Borges has scored all season. Katie Doherty was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for East Hartford and bumps their season record up to 6-5. As for Southington, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-5.
East Hartford was able to grind out a solid win over Southington in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 55-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for East Hartford since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
