The Schaeffer Academy Lions lost against the Houston Hurricanes back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Schaeffer Academy took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Houston. Schaeffer Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Schaeffer Academy saw an underclassman step up: Lillian Morrisey dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Linnea Ekbom was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Schaeffer Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Houston only posted three assists.
Houston found their leader in underclassman Avery Kingsley, who scored 20 points along with seven steals. Kingsley is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Yohe, who scored six points along with four steals.
Schaeffer Academy has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Houston, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schaeffer Academy will challenge Twin Cities Academy/Great River at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Houston, they will head out on the road to take on Lyle/Pacelli at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Lyle/Pacelli is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
