Abingdon came tearing into Wednesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Gate City Blue Devils an 8-0 shutout. Considering the Falcons have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Abingdon pushed their record up to 17-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Gate City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season.

Abingdon is taking a road trip to square off against Virginia High at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gate City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
