The Marion Giants will head out on the road to challenge the Liberty Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Marion has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 1st.
Marion came up short against Lafayette Jefferson on Saturday, falling 17-6.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Liberty Christian brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over Park Tudor on Monday. With that victory, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Ellie Callahan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two triples, two stolen bases, and five RBI. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in April.
In other batting news, Claire Callahan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and six RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Kaitlyn Narwhold was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Liberty Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .767. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Liberty Christian's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-10. As for Marion, their loss dropped their record down to 5-17.
Marion suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Liberty Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2019. Can the Giants avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
