After three games on the road, Fleming is heading back home. They will take on the Peetz Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Fleming is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Peetz in Colorado (Fleming is ranked 58th, while Peetz is ranked 301st).
Last Saturday, Fleming sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-35 victory over Prairie. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Fleming has scored all year.
Fleming's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ciana Lousberg, who scored 13 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lousberg has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tori Champ, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Peetz's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 71-27 loss at the hands of Haxtun. Peetz has struggled against Haxtun recently, as their match on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite their loss, Peetz saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Khira Gipfert, who scored six points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Skye Lefever, who scored five points.
Peetz struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Haxtun racked up 23 assists.
Fleming has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Peetz, they bumped their record down to 1-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fleming have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Peetz, though, as they've been averaging only 19.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Fleming against Peetz in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 as the team secured a 81-17 win. With Fleming ahead 49-9 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
