The Fivay Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the Springstead Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fivay is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.6 points per game this season.
While Fivay's victory against Zephyrhills wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Falcons pulled ahead with a 38-37 photo finish over the Bulldogs on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted against the Bulldogs since December 8, 2020.
Fivay's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Ambrosino, who posted nine points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nijany Barnes, who had ten points and three steals.
Meanwhile, Springstead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Central, falling 63-40. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 591st, while the Bears are ranked 99th).
Fivay will have to keep a close watch on Sam Franco and Orlando Feliberty, a pair of players who had a big impact on Springstead's prior game. Franco scored nine points along with six assists and three steals, while Feliberty shot 43% from the field en route to 13 points. Eddie Reiser also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.
The win made it two in a row for Fivay and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Springstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fivay has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Springstead struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Fivay took a serious blow against Springstead when the teams last played back in November of 2021, falling 84-48. Thankfully for the Falcons, Gavin Korth-Loder (who went 13-for-16 on his way to 30 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
