The Yorktown Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight loss. Their rough 65-43 defeat to Skidmore-Tynan might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Yorktown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1666th, while Skidmore-Tynan is ranked 740th).
Skidmore-Tynan had a senior duo take command as Bennett Martinez scored 19 points along with five steals and Cole Rivers scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists. Rivers hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Steven Garza, who scored ten points.
Yorktown bumped their record down to 2-13 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Skidmore-Tynan, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 18-4 record this season.
Yorktown will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Woodsboro at 6:30 p.m. Hopefully Woodsboro focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday. As for Skidmore-Tynan, they will head out on the road to square off against Three Rivers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Three Rivers is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
